------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-01-30 21:33 -------
Please update to the newest drakxtools package (9.1-0.19mdk). This should fix
your problems.

If the auto-detection of the model still fails, please post the contents of the
file /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/autoprobe (printer must be connected and
turned on). If /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/autoprobe is empty, try also
/proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/autoprobe0,
/proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/autoprobe1, ... With this information I can make
printerdrake correctly auto-detecting the HP DeskJet 500.

description:
After printer auto-detect failed, I manually selected an HP DJ 500 on the first local
parallel port. The next message "Making port available for CUPS..." was displayed for
over a minute. The message after that was "foomatic -configure failed". I repeated
this three times before giving up.

The printer works fine under all other versions of Linux and Windows I've tried,
including Mandrake 9.0.

My system has a BP6 motherboard with two Celeron-555 processors installed.
