description:
Mandrake Beta 3.
Configuration: Toshiba Portege Portable P4010 and Epson Perfection USB scanner Model
1650
1. Installing scanner after Mandrake b3 is installed on the system
2. In Control Center >Hardware>Scannerdrake and starting to install just a blinking
icon appears and nothing happens
3. Then took the "illogical step" and went to ControlCenter>Harddrake. The Scanner is
listed and correctly identified as Perfection 1650. Run here config tool and get
message that Xsane has to be installed from disk 1. Installation oke, but then message
that Epson 1650 is not in the scanner database and asks whether I want to configure
manually. Clicking yes gives no action, just the message box disappears.
4. In Mandrake 9.0 on my production machine, Xsane automatically uses the driver Epson
QT-8200 for my Epson 1650 and works fine. In hardrake the scanner is recognised as the
epson 1650.
Other oddities after the above steps 1, 2 and 3 and rebooting
1. Connecting the scanner brings up automatically up the Xsane icon on the desktop:
this is a it should be.
2. Clicking the icon gives the screen "accepting the agreements etc". after clicking
yes a small message box with: "no devices detected".
