I believe you that in most cases backporting can be an art (or a pain,
take your pick). In this case the patches are relatively small and it
looks like most of the nearby USB code has been kept up to date in the
2.4 kernel.

(There are three patch bits all referenced from the pilot-link-devel
archives. The first two are in 2.5.52, and the third is in a post of
Tue Dec 17 2002; I'm not sure if it's in the official kernel yet.)

I'm very willing to be involved with testing at least. I may try to
take the first crack at the backport this weekend, but if you don't hear
from me again you can assume I'm still cleaning my kids' rooms.
