How about that (replace scd0 with install device)?
-----
#!/bin/bash
dd if=/dev/scd0 of=/dev/null bs=1 count=1 >/dev/null 2>&1
if [ $? == 0 ]; then
        echo "User forgot to remove CD!"
else
        echo "User removed CD"
fi

description:
I installed Mandrake 9.1 beta2. At the very end of the installation process
I'm asked to remove the CD-ROM before booting. So I did. After clicking the
OK-Button the CD tray opens again.
The expexted behaviour is that the CD tray only opens if the user REALLY
forgot to remove the CD.
