------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-07 19:20 ------- I am assuming you mean add S to lilo prompt. Currently the lilo boot loader is not installed so I dont know how I could boot into single user mode. Maybe, I dont understand what you mean. I view my linux partition using rescue mode and that is as close as I can get to running linux. I am out of ideas on how to fix the problem. Is there anything I can try before I attempt a clean install? ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ------- Reminder: ------- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEW creation_date: description: Hi, I was running mandrake 8.2 and decided to upgrade to mandrake 9.1 beta 2. I downloaded MandrakeLinux-9.1beta2-CD1.i586.iso and MandrakeLinux-9.1beta2-CD2.i586.iso. The check sum was correct so I burned them onto cd, rebooted the computer and chose to upgrade when prompted. Everything worked fine until the installation reached the bootloader section. The following error was reported: Installation of bootloader failed. The following error occured: : Fatal: open /dev/hda: No such file or directory No options were given to correct this problem. I rebooted the machine and tried using rescue to install lilo. This failed with the same error. Rescue was able to restore the windows bootloader and I am currently using windows xp. I have tried repeating the update several times and the same error occurs. I have not found a way to boot linux. I have a 60gb hard drive. 30gb is dedicated to linux and 30gb for windows. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Seamus Carroll
