The original problem consisted of trying to set up a HP Deskjet 832C after the
installation. The only drivers I could choose between were
HP Deskjet Series CUPS v. 1.1
HP New Deskjet Series CUPS v. 1.1

I did a fresh installation of cooker tonight and tried (unsuccessfully) to
reproduce the aforementioned bug. I disconnected my printer from the
computer during the installation and connected it during the first reboot.
Then I tried to use printerdrake to set it up.

I did this in 2 sessions with printerdrake, system logs are given below.

After the Feb 7 21:19:59 message, I got a dialog stating "Could not configure
HP deskjet 830C". Clicking the OK button on that dialog had no effect. There
was another dialog from printerdrake in the background. Clicking close on
that dialog closed both dialogs and the setup seemed to continue (messages
appeared in syslog, packages were installed, but no printer was setup).
Instead of selecting "Add new printer", I closed printerdrake.

Feb 7 21:24:47: I started printerdrake for the second time. Selecting "add
new printer" and using auto detection, I was able to setup the printer. After
printing the test page, I said that it had been successful, and the
printerdrake dialog closed and never appeared again. The program was still
running and continued blocking the prompt, but all of its GUI windows had
been closed!

When I did manage to set up my printer, I did get the correct choice of
drivers, i.e. the gimp-print drivers and the HP drivers. However, the 2
problems I stated above were quite bothersome.

Narfi.

description:
I am running current cooker and I have set up my HP Deskjet 832C as an available
printer.
I was given the choice between
HP Deskjet Series CUPS v. 1.1
HP New Deskjet Series CUPS v. 1.1
and I chose the former since it seemed to be the default.
I also chose the colormodel to be CMYK because it was the default.
Then I printed the test page and all the black colors (the borders and the text)
were blue instead of black.
The resolution in the colored graphics seemed to be much below the 300 DPI that
I had specified.

I tried to switch to a grayscale colormodel and printed the test page, but it
looked the same as with the CMYK colormodel.
