I saw the recent discussion about German umlauts and it reminded me of a problem with spellchecking German words in KDE.
First thing, KDE spellchecking German complains about "could not start ispell, make sure it's installed and in your path". Spellchecking English works fine, though. ispell-3.2.06-8mdk ispell-de-3.1.20-21mdk ispell-en-3.2.06-8mdk aspell-0.50.3-1mdk aspell-de-0.1.2-1mdk if I point KDE at aspell, the spellchecker at least start up, but it complains about any word that has an umlaut in it. Even more, it ingnores any character up to and including the umlaut. Take Mrtel (=mortar) and it shows "rtel" in the substitution field. With other words it's the same but sometimes the spellchecker offers substitutions that have u" instead of , likewise for other umlauts. Another problem, can KDE handle different languages for spellchecking? Most of my e-mails are in German but my posts in knode are mostly English. - Mark
