AFAICR the aic7xxx_old is *only* necessary if you haven't updated your firmware. And, IIRC, all cards that used this driver can have their firware updated. The inclusion of the aic7xxx_old driver was only to tide people over while they got around to updating their firmware. But, I could be wrong, we only have 2 aic7xxx cards ...
