this is a coppermine machine with a two year old via chipset, if ACPI doesn't work on this box, what box will it work on. it is scsi but that seems to work great. Caps lock issues are a minor irritation easily circumvented. What I am after are fixes for basics such as konq - button text invisible - I've done some awkward things guessing when there are two or more boxes cups - installing only the printers I want i would be more patient but I have a number of aging servers dropping off the support timetable and have to face upgrading a dozen or so. 9.1 has most of the servers i want (but not all - radiusd-cistron is an obsolete choice). i am going to off load all my wireless stuff in favor of specialized distros - that isn't Mandrake's market anyway. my procedure is normally to beat these servers on a workstation box until I have workable configurations, then do a minimal install on the target machine and move the configuration files. i think i can do that with 91rc1 in it's current state but i keep getting distracted by the basics that don't work my guess is there are workarounds but the noise on the cooker list makes them hard to find. i was hoping for a short list of basic fixes and go after the big issues that might really hurt jim tarvid
