           Product: drakxtools
         Component: diskdrake
Summary: [9.1RC1] mkraid failure + some confusing error messages
           Version: 9.1-3mdk
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
        AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

System: Dell Precision WorkStation 610 MT, dual Pentium II Xeon 450 MHz
(Dechutes), three 9.1 GB Seagate Cheetah 9LP (ST39102LW) and Adaptec AIC-7890/1
and AIC-7880U SCSI storage controllers. There is also an Adaptec ARO-1130xA
RAIDPort card on the system, which I don't think has any Linux drivers (?).

During installation, I choose "Custom disk partitioning" and then "Toggle to
expert mode" - then tries to make these partitions:
sda1: 101 MB ext3, mount point /boot
sda5: 8.3 GB Linux RAID to md0
sdb1: 768 MB Linux swap
sdb5: 7.7 MB ReiserFS, mount point /home
sdc1: 8.4 GB Linux RAID to md0

RAID md0 shows up with: 8.3 GB XFS (as RAID level 1 = disk mirroring is the
default, this is correct), I choose mount point /

Done.

Two-line message: An error occured / mkraid failed.

I click OK, and go to "Custom disk partitioning" again (very graceful handling
of the error situation, good work!:-).

I modify RAID level, from 1 to 5. Trying "Done", but get the message that I
don't have enough partitions in the RAID on that level (I have only two at this
stage).

Changing sdb5: 7.7 MB to Linux RAID, joining with md0

md0 is now calculated to 15GB, which should be right

Done.

An error occured / mkraid failed.

Back to Custom disk partitioning" and "expert mode" again, "Clear all" on all
three disks. Now trying:

sda1: 125 MB ext3 /boot
sda5: 784 MB Linux swap
sda6: 7.5 GB Linux LVM

Trying to format sda1. Error message: "Not a HASH reference". Same message when
I try to format sda5 and sda6. Perhaps this "format" button should not have been
active in this situation?

Som more partitioning:

sdb1: 8.4 GB Linux LVM
sdc1: 8.4 GB Linux LVM

Adding all three LVM partitions to new device, I choose the name "lvm0" - adding
up to 24 GB in that volume.

creating filesystem lvm0/1 with XFS on all of it (24 GB). Trying "Format" -
getting message "Not a HASH reference".

Done. Now it starts formatting!

OK. I succeeded in setting up LVM, but failed with RAID. I'm not sure if this is
a bug or my own fault (if all the RAID partitions must be exactly the same size,
for example - I've set up RAID with RH8.0 and there it didn't matter).
