This appears to be corrected in the Feb 21 cooker. You don't get any errors
selecting the higher resolution, but it quietly defaults to 1024x768 without
producing any errors.

description:
In doing my latest cooker install (today's) I took the prompted value of
"Generic 1024x768" for the monitor rather than override to "Optiquest V75"
(which is in the Vendor list but has not been detected since I hooked the system
up to a KVM).

I then specified a 1280x1024 24 bpp resolution, which was accepted.

Once the install finished and I rebooted, I had a 1024x768 screen (not
surprising). However, if I launched MCC and tried to activate Hardware > Screen
Resolution, I would get a brief delay after which the Hardware icon choices
would redisplay, i.e. the Screen Resolution applet did not launch successfully
and allow me to reset the resolution to 1024x768.

Once I launched MCC Hardware > Configure your monitor and set the monitor
correctly, then Hardware > Screen Resolution came up correctly with the
1280x1024 24bpp values I had set during the install.

Two bugs here:

First, the install should not allow me to set 1280x1024 for a monitor choice
which does not support it.

Second, the screen resolution applet won't launch if the existing resolution is
invalid (there is probably some other more precise but equally invalid reason
for this, but that's the obvious symptom).
