Don't know if this is related or not. On the notebook I'm using which
doesn't even know what APIC is. I get the following.

Local APIC disabled by BIOS -- reenabling.
Could not enable APIC!
Initializing CPU#0

If APIC is known to be disabled in BIOS why oh why is the kernel
assuming that I am stupid and changing the setup. I've noticed this on
a number of boxes not just on 9.1.

I attempted to install the latest mandrake 9.1 beta (RC1) on a system with an
ASUS A7M266-D motherboard (identity string: 04/11/2002 AMD760MP-A7M266-D).

The board was configured with a single AMD athlon MP1900+ processor IN SLOT 1
rather that 0--didn't even notice the difference when I installed it!

Pressing "enter" at the first prompt after booting from disk1 of the ISO image
gave a blank screen.

After a few moments I rebooted, and this time chose to press F1. This time I
entered "text" at the boot prompt and was presented with a screenful of:
APIC error on CPU0:04(04)

hence my assumption that putting the chip into socket 0 rather than 1 should
fix the problem (and hopefully not break anything else)..!

Hope this is enough detail...
