-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The default configuration of KDE leaves a lot to be desired, specifically relating to fonts.
mdkkdm (and kdm) should IMHO use a good font such as Nimbus Sans (or the sans virtual font) instead of the default (Helvetica?) This may not be as much of an issue now that an image is used (must look again ..). The Gnome default fonts are substantially better, since they use the sans and sans-serif virtual fonts by default, although I did some tweaking to the sizes. Some issues with mdkkdm (9.1-19mdk): *When selecting a different Desktop/WM, [ENTER] then (without a user list) defaults to the reboot menu or (with user list, at least under 9.1-12mdk as in rc1) does nothing. It should default to Login. *It seems [ESC] does not work as cancel everywhere as it should IMHO. FYI, the font settings I have found useable in KDE are as follows: Generel: Nimbus sans 12 Fixed Width: Courier 10 Pitch 12 Toolbar: Nimbus Sans 11 Menu: Nimbus Sans 12 Windows Title: Either Bookman 12 or Bitstream Vera Sans 12 (if available) Taskbar: Nimbus Sans 11 Desktop: Nimbus Sans 12 I came to these settings on 2 machines independantly about 1 month apart, one on a 15 inch dekstop, the other on a 13 inch laptop, both running at 1024x768. A common complaint is that the text viewer in Konqueror has fonts that are too small, setting Fixed Width as above would solve this IMHO. This should probably go under a different thread, but OpenOffice.org menus look pretty bad except when using Helvetica (using cooker freetype2 with no patches, may look better with the plf freetype2?). Please consider having someone spend some time on getting the best fonts for each toolkit out-the-box. Similar settings could also be done for Mozilla (default fonts also not optimal). Mandrake 9.1 just needs an extra bit of spit and polish to convince the people who think fonts are everything (and thus incorreclty though Redhat 8.0 was better than Mandrake 9.0). BTW, galaxy is looking really good! Congrats.
