applet-widget.h should be part of libpanel  or gnome-panel... both of
which I have. Yet neither one has the .h file... (I've installed the
devel versions as well.) Any thoughts?
the applet I'm trying to build is gcardscheme.... for switching network
profiles in Linux without a reboot....

The applet you are trying to run is for gnome 1.x New ones don't use 
this file but panel-applet.h. See
