I also see this problem. A helpful post on Mandrake Club pointed out the cause
of the problem. The recent update to printer-filters in Mandrake 9.0 has also
introduced the bug to the older release.

The file /etc/pnm2ppa.conf in printer-filters-1.0-94 has a different default
printer type compared to earlier releases. In 9.0 all versions were commented
out so pnm2ppa defaulted to HP720.

However in printer-filters-1.0-94 there is a line in /etc/pnm2ppa.conf

"version 0"

which will disable printing until it is either edited to reflect the actual
printer in use, or else just commented out to default to HP720.

description:
System is known good with LM82 and prints from there OK.

If the parport is set in the bios to be normal, the kernel complains at boot time that
the lpt interrupt has problems.

Parport is currently EPP. In EPP mode system recognizes parport properly at boot
time. Printerdrake registers the HP720printer in the visible configuration and tries
to configure it as an HP722C. After making corrections, configuration is saved and
the chance to do a test print presents itself; however the printer does not print.

A user on the expert list reported being able to successfully configure and test his
printer on RC1 from a web configuration interface. I might note at this point that
none of the foomatic packages are loaded on this system; they did'nt go in at install
time.

This box is 9.1 RC1 and current with cooker as of Feb 21, 6:00PM EST.
