I don't know which component is involved (kernel, X, ...).
I was under KDE
and I closed my laptop.
This should cause to put my LCD off.
More than 1 houre later
when I came back,
my laptop was frozen
(display stayed black).
C-A-BS, C-A-Del did nothing.
I had to use the power button.
Package acpid not installed.
