Please try noapic option at boot time, so :
When you boot from cd press the <F1> key and type "linux noapic" in the
prompt
If this workaround fix your problem please install your system and
lm_sensors package,
- send me the result of dmidecode (run it as root)
- add noapic in append section of the /etc/lilo.conf (don't forget to
run lilo after)

I have just installed Mandrake 9.1 rc1, and my Logitech Mx500 is not detected.
When I use the PS2 adaptator, the mouse is well recognize, but with the USB
plug, the mouse doesn't work neither in the installation program, nor in Xfree.
