I get exactly the same on my IBM Thinkpad A22p laptop. In addition, running
"acpi" gives the message "No ACPI support in kernel, or incorrect path".
(apm still works as well as it used to; i.e. suspends OK, but fails to resume
one time in 3 - the hard disc doesn't spin up)
