Actually kmail has the 'delete' icon (a red cross) which deletes the mail without
passing via
the trash, and they have the 'trash' icon (the blue cylinder) that move your mail to
your trash
instead of actually deleting it.. Isn't it the same on your kmail ? They introduced
this in 3.1
