------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-02 20:26 -------
Ran the following test

rpm -e all of kde qt arts libarts and kdelibs. ReRan locate and searched for
and removed all leftover directories / config files / dot files etc from the
box. Then i got out my install disks for Beta3 and installed the following

kdelibs-3.1-4mdk
kdelibs-common-3.1-4mdk
kdebase-3.1-7mdk
kdeadmin-3.1-3mdk

+ to satisfy dependencies.
arts-1.1.0-1mdk
libarts-1.1.0-1mdk
libqt3-common-3.1.1-8mdk
libqt3-3.1.1-8mdk
krootwarning-9.1-1mdk
mdklaunchhelp-9.1-2mdk

KDE now works.... Windows open and no DCOP fault.

Then I did urpmi.update -a and urpmi --auto --auto-select.

Once donwloaded and installed I ran kcontrol as root from the command line as
before. DCOP server error.

Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":0.0".
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-2642' to 'kcontrol'

Also note that the Xlib error indicative of problems with anti-aliasing appears
again.

Then I did rpm -e libqt3 libqt3-common --nodeps
then I installed the libqt3 and libqt3-common from the Beta3 disks. Ran
kcontrol and it worked flawlessly. Conclusion ... for my hardware etc the
current libqt3 and libqt3-common don't work.

Hardware.

Compaq Armada M700 Laptop
Rage Mobility video card
384Mb Ram
Intel 440BX chipset
Toshiba 20gig HDD
Intel Celeron 500mhz CPU
Running linux-2.4.21pre4-10mdk as the kernel
