Stew,

Here's why LTSP is creating their own build environment:

http://www.ltsp.org/lbe-alpha-2.html#why

I like the LTSP project and I'm just reporting that I was unable to
compile the version of bash that they had settled on under the gcc 3.2.2
that Mandrake has included. I wish I was better at explaining all of
this.

What James A. McQuillan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> suggested to me was that I
download and compile gcc 3.2 that they used. I got further along in the
compilation process, but I ran into other problems I didn't know how to
deal with.

LTSP deserves at least a little attention here. Their work is paving
the way to quickly and easily extend Linux's reach throughout an
enterprise quicker than lightning. Maybe we simply recommend to LTSP
that they run a newer version of bash that will compile properly under
gcc 3.2.2. They are still in their alpha stage and I'm sure they would
welcome the input. It's odd though they are compiling the same version
of bash that Mandrake 9.1rc1 already has. (2.0.5b).

Hmmm. Well good luck with 9.1's rollout!

I'm eager to start distributing copies of the GPL version at a local
computer store.
