Then there must be a problem with your configuration. 2.2.7a-5mdk works
fine on my 9.1rc1 installation (no configuration done), and just great
on my 9.0 production servers running 2.2.7a-3mdk and 2.2.7a-4mdk (with
config files that started life on Mandrake 7.1/samba-2.0.6), and on my
cooker box running 2.2.7a-5mdk.
Please check the following:
1)That your configuration is not broken, by using the 'testparm' program
(please do not provide all the output, just whether you get errors).
2)Increase the "log level" in your smb.conf to greater than 3, and
attempt to restart the smb service.
3)Manually start smbd, with something like:
# smbd -i -d5
Try and fix any errors reported (if they are configuration problems) or
the error messages (if they are not).
Please supply your smb.conf file also.

description:
The Samba server SMBD doesn't start in Mandrake 9.1 RC1. I use the same config
files I copied from my working Mandrake 9.0 distribution. I only get the error
that SMBD cannot start - NMBD does. So Samba does not work. Even after I
deinstalled the MDK-Samba-packages and installed fresh downloaded packages
from samba.org
