I have a microsoft optical wheel mouse, it's usb but it has a little adapter
that changes to ps/2 and I use that although I've tried using it as a usb
mouse and I get the same problem. When I boot into x the mouse cursor just
sits at the top left corner of the screen. When i move the mouse I can see
that thing things are being selected they highlight when I run(where the
cursor should be) over them. I also had this same problem when I was
configuring x during installation, so the mouse basically never worked in x.
I tried the generic ps/2, the generic wheel ps/2, and the microsoft explorer
setting just for fun and none of them produced a moving cursor. Also during
installation at one point the mouses cursor locked up in the upper Right hand
corner of the screen and I had to tab around to finish the install.
