This is very bad for a very big usability reason. It means that kdm/mdkkdm is not launched until after one logs out, thus KDE does not offer shutdown/reboot options in the logout screen. This usability issue has existed for awhile, but I just can't imagine any reason for it. If KDM/mdkkdm is installed (which it is, of course, by default), why not use the kdm configuration setting for autologin instead? This would make things easier both for the user dealing with logging out and for disabling/reenabling this functionality in the future. -Tim
