The reason that I'd voted for this one, that Gnome had problems, has been 
fixed. I'm happy as far as the scope of this bug.

(clean install of RC2, /home wiped clean with format)

In fact, the entry is missing in /etc/hosts :
127.0.0.1        localhost

I had to add localhost.localdoamin manually.
