When installing Mandrake 9.1 RC2 (a fresh install on a new, empty hard drive),
all packages were installed and I was performing X configuration. I chose "RIVA
TNT2" as the video card, "Korean Data Systems VS-19" monitor, 1600x1200 video
resolution, and 16-bit color display. When prompted to test this configuration,
I did so and the test was successful. However, after clicking the "Yes" button
to indicate that the settings were correct, I was returned to the installer but
was no longer able to use the mouse (the mouse cursor was not visible at all),
nor was I able to use the keyboard to navigate (no component had the focus, and
using the tab or other keys in attempt to change focus had no effect). The
system was not locked up, as I was able to use key combinations like Ctrl+Alt+F1
to change to a virtual terminal. Ultimately, the only thing I could do was to
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill the X server, reboot the system, and re-run the
installer as an upgrade. At this point, I chose to skip the X settings test,
and the installation completed successfully.
