CHERRY WINKS
Makes 60 cookies. 2 1/4 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 tablespoons milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup walnuts 1 cup chopped dates 1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherries, plus extra for garnishing 2 1/2 cups cornflakes, crushed Method 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Grease cookie sheets. 3. Set aside. 4. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 5. In mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar until smooth. 6. Add eggs, milk, vanilla, walnuts, dates and maraschino cherries. 7. Add flour mixture. 8. Mix well. 9. Roll a teaspoonful of dough into a ball. 10. Roll ball in crushed cornflakes. 11. Place on prepared cookie sheet. 12. Repeat with remaining dough. 13. Top each cookie with 1/4 maraschino cherry. 14. Bake for 12 minutes. 15.
