Amish Sugar Cookies
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar, known as confectioners' sugar
one cup shortening, butter or margarine
1 cup oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
one teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar1/2 teaspoon salt
4-1/2 cups all purpose flour, unsifted
Oven temperature: 375 degrees F.
In large bowl, mix the first four ingredients; add eggs, beat again.
Then gradually add in the dry ingredients which were mixed in a separate
bowl; then add the vanilla; chill dough about 15 minutes.
Drop on ungreased baking pans by teaspoonfuls, and flatten with a fork
dipped in granulated sugar.
Bake at 375 degrees F. for ten minutes, let stand on pans for 3 minutes,
remove to wire racks, and enjoy!
Sandy
Note: I also have pressed them down with a cookie stamp dunked in the
granulated sugar. They look pretty that way, with flowers, and animal
themes, etc.
