David's recipes, Moose Turd Cookies
These are cocoa-rich, intense cookies that aren't too sweet. They can be
modified in many different ways.

They are so-named because an early batch of these cookies looked rather like
their name sake.

A Moose Turd

----------------------------------------------------------

Cream together
12 tbsp softened butter (1.5 sticks)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup dark brown molasses
Mix in
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
4-5 oz dark chocolate (best with a high cocoa content, e.g. 70%) (melted)
1 tbsp Triple Sec or Grand Marnier (optional)
2 tbsp black cocoa
1 tbsp normal cocoa
Once this is well mixed, add
1 mashed banana
1/2 cup dried zante currants (raisins can be used instead)
Slowly fold in until mixed
1 1/2 cups flour
pinch of salt
Cook in a 300-350 F oven for 8-9 minutes. They are easy to overcook, as the
batter is so dark it is hard to tell if the bottoms have become burnt.

----------------------------------------------------------

Variants
Moooooose Turds
This variant has simple cheesecake batter swirled in. The ones pictured had
normal cocoa rather than the black cocoa.

Dragon Turds
Place a small, fresh chiltepin pepper on the top of each cookie before baking.

Mexican Moose Turds
Add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper as well as 1/2 cup toasted sesame seeds to
the batter.

Reindeer Turds
Sprinkle with green and red.

----------------------------------------------------------

Notes on ingredients:
black cocoa powder: This is the black cocoa they use to make some cookies so
dark. You can get it from King Arthur Flour. If you don't have black cocoa
powder, you can substitute regular cocoa powder as an acceptable, but
less-than-ideal alternative.
