OVEN-BARBECUED SPARERIBS

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

2 to 3 pounds country-style pork ribs

1 to 2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)

Vegetable oil for browning meat

2 small onions, very thinly sliced

Sauce:

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon paprika

3/4 cup water

2 tablespoons vinegar

3/4 cup ketchup

1 teaspoon chile powder

To prepare oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

To brown ribs: Cut ribs into pieces. Season with salt and red pepper. Put 2 
tablespoons vegetable oil into frying pan. Bring to medium- high heat. Add 
ribs. Brown on all sides. Place ribs in single layer in roasting pan with 
cover. Cover ribs with sliced onions.

To make sauce: In bowl, combine Worcestershire sauce, paprika, water, vinegar, 
ketchup and chile powder. Pour sauce over ribs.

To bake ribs: Cover tightly. Bake, basting occasionally, for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
