Jean, I have done my whole carpet with that mixture in a shampooer, works

Thank you for all the suggestions. The water, Dawn and vinegar seems to
have done the trick. I didn't try all of them because I didn't have
everything I needed.
Now that spot on the carpet is so soft and clean I have to get the rest of
it shampooed.
