Hello Sandy,
If you are an American and use your American cups then there is not a 
problem in exchanging recipes whether it is from America or Canada.  There 
may be a problem with larger amounts like quarts or gallons.  Now how many 
of us cook Canadian French Onion soup in gallon quantities? Hahaha
