I only put about a half cup of elbow macaroni at the most. Rice or barley
just a bit, I never really measure and it is always uncooked. Just make
sure you have enough liquid in the meal to absorb it while it cooks.
I go at least an hour and a half sometimes closer to 2 hours if I am busy.
Then just unplug it and it stays hot for quite a while if it is covered.
My husband has been very ill since the middle of February and some days I
never know how he will feel or if a nurse will be coming.
So it is nice to prepare it in the crockpot and just go in the kitchen later
and turn it off and I have a big bowl for supper.
I haven't tried the elbows with chili yet but I do it with Bean With Bacon
Soup. I have also done a sort of tuna casserole. I put a can of cream of
mushroom soup, some elbows, a can of tuna with its juice and a can of water.
I put a little salt and pepper and just let it rip for an hour and a half or
two.
It was still quite hot an hour after I pulled out the plug. I also have cut
up pieces of hard Italian bread like croutons and poured chicken noodle or
tomato soup and the right amount of water plus a tiny bit more because there
is more bulk.
It cooks and the flavor soaks into the bread and it makes the kitchen smell
awesome. I imagine that would be good with an onion roll or the regular
bread with onion soup.
Some good ideas to check out and you can mix and match flavors. And no worry
about whether you put it on high or low because there is none.

Your rice or macaroni with soup sounds good. About how much rice or
macaroni
do you use and I am guessing you put it in uncooked. How long does it take
to get done?

For Christmas I got one of those little 1 1/2 quart crockpots and it
doesn't
have any controls on it. It just plugs into the wall and that is it. I
wondered about that, but I have been using it all along, especially for
meals where I put a can of soup, a little more than the amount of water it
asks for, and some rice, barley, or elbow macaroni. I love it! Lora

I have had a programable crockpot. I went back to my old dial one.
