Applesauce Cake

 

 

Thoroughly cream 1/2 cup shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar; add 2 beaten eggs
and beat well.  Add 1 cup thick, unsweetened applesauce and mix well.  Add 2
cups sifted flour, tsp1/4 salt, tsp1 baking powder, tsp1/2 soda, tsp1
cinnamon and tsp1/2 ground cloves, which have been sifted together.  Beat
smooth and fold in1 cup chopped seedless raisins.  Bake in loaf or tube pan,
which has been greased and floured, at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes.

Serve plain or frosted. This cake will remain moist several days in a
tightly covered cake cover.
