I think you're talking about one of those slap chop things -- I have one,
but never use it because it's usually easier to either grab a knife or one
of my three food processors, but I'll add it to the list.

I had funnels on the second list, but I think I'll move them to the first.

I love my talking timer from blind mice mart, very reasonably priced and I 
can't live with out it. Also, the food chopper from there as well, not 
electric, not too sure what Dale calls it.  I also like the food chopping 
mats, they are plastic and after you chop up something, you can pick it up 
curve it and make a shoot/funnel to slide your chopped stuff into a bowl or 
a pot.  The food chopper and the chopping mats all go in the dishwasher.I 
would also recommend funnels of different sizes.
Hope that helps and good luck to your friend, this is an exciting time for 
him.  I have a small crockpot that is just perfect for one or two servings, 
also great for dips for parties.
