Blackberry Dumplings recipe - from the McMillan Family and Friends

Ingredients:
1 quart (32 ounces) fresh or frozen loose-pack blackberries
1 C sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp lemon extract
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 container of heavy cream or whipped topping (optional)
DUMPLINGS
2 C flour
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp. baking powder
2 eggs
3/4 to 1 cup buttermilk

Directions:
To prepare dumplings,
sift flour, baking powder and salt together in a large bowl.
In a small bowl, lightly beat eggs and buttermilk together.
Pour the liquid into dry ingredients and gently fold. Mix just until
the dough comes together. The batter should be thick and cake like.
In Dutch oven,
combine the berries, sugar, salt, lemon extract and nutmeg. Bring to a
boil. Reduce heat and simmer for five minutes.
Drop six mounds of dumpling dough onto simmering berry mixture. Cover
and simmer 10-12 min.
Do not lift lid during this time. Dumplings are done if toothpick comes
out clean.
Spoon into individual serving dishes and top with whipped cream.

Personal Notes:
I like to put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a dish and then spoon the
dumpling and berries over
