Hi Laura, I would like to share my email address with you and with all the other cooking in the dark members.
You are more than wellcome to email me off list.
I really truly enjoy this list because it gives me the opportunity to exchange recipes with other blind individuals like myself. But sometimes I want to discuss other blind related topics that might not necesarily be about cooking.

Oh and I would also like to thank you Laura for this email. You definitely brought up alot of things that really hit home. It does seem like some people in the blind comunity forget about young people or people who have just recently lost their sight and last but not least people who have been overprotected for so long that they don't realize what they are capable of doing on their own. I feel that we should try and stick together as a blind community because when times are tough, no one will be able to understand you better than someone who has been in your shoes or in our case has the same disability.
Anyhow, here is my email address

Thanks so much for your time and have a wonderful day

Hi Bradley,
There are many groups out here with blind and sighted people alike that are focused mainly on recipes and once in a while blindness related questions come up. I will not name them here but I am in several of them. Cooking In The Dark was my first one and I keep coming back in even when I have to take breaks because I thought the concept was great. I think the helpful hints and discussing unique problems of blindness should be included. If not we would be just another recipe machine out here. So I suggest this be just one group and if you want groups with a kazillion recipes and no discussion hardly at all I can direct you to them. But if we were that we shouldn't even be called Cooking In The Dark. And those of us who are blind and have been out on our own sometimes forget young people, people who have just lost their sight. and especially people who are not so young who have been so over-protected they have never had a chance to find out what they can or cannot do by themselves. I think this group should be a place they can come to for support and help and if we can't do that and want to crank out thousands of recipes, then we would no longer be the same group. Maybe a one or two day window to help a certain person or we should just email back and forth off list after a problem is made known to us so the group doesn't bog down. I am not sure where the healthy balance is but we're mostly all adults and eventually it works out. Sometimes there is a lull in the group because it's the weekend or people wait for things to blow over, especially when a moderator has to send a stern reminder. People do not want to get in the middle of something I guess I have had friends unsubscribe because discussions have been discouraged when the purpose of our group is to share recipes and to help people with blindness issues. Maybe the owner and moderators should clirify it to people because sometimes what people do and what people say we should do are two different things. but I have been around most of the time since 2003. One thing I wish this group had that other groups do is an archive. I am finally learning to use them and they are a wonderful resource. But we all can't have what we wish for.
So we have to make the best of what is offered in each group.
Hopefully friendship is a part of all of them and I hate to see so much negativity. Blind people or all people for that matter should be coming together to help each other out because it is rough out here sometimes!
Lora

Hi Sisi,

I've been wondering the same thing. It seems like for a few days, all the discussion was focused on helping people with certain things and barely anything, then when they were told to get back to the recipes, everything just stopped until today, so I don't understand what was going on myself. This is a great list, but I'm sure a lot of people probably felt the same when nothing was said for days.

To be honest, I feel they should have two separate lists, one specifically for recipes and one for tips and help. That way, people who just joined the list for recipes and those that need help or tips can join that list (although recipe related tips & help would be still in the Recipes list), although I do see the advantages of having it all combined.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the list as I'm now starting to get more recipes through.

Cheers!
Bradley
