If your other half to be is terrified of anything digital, should you get a digital oven? I agree that as long as the oven beeps and the temperature button or pressure point can be located, you should be OK. Before I would buy a digital oven, though, I would make sure that the oven does beep. I have heard that some do not. If possible, I would try one before you buy one if they have a display model. I would hate to buy one and then discover that I could not use it adequately.

Tom, please let us know how this works out. I'm going to have to look for a
new oven soon, and this is one of my concerns. I think as you do, that as
long as I learn the touch and the oven beeps, I should be in good shape. My
fiance, on the other hand, is terrified of anything digital. We'll be
anxious to hear about your experience!

I agree with you. I always figured with any electrical appliance, as long as
it beeps, there is hope. You and I are thinking along the same lines, and
this is great. With sighted assistance, I should be fine.

Hi, Tom,

When I was working as a Rehab Teacher in Connecticut, I often helped people to learn to set a digital oven. The temperature set button beeps every time you touch it, and the temperature goes up or down in five degree increments. So, you have to count the beeps as you go. For example, to set the oven to 400 degrees from a starting point of 350, you would have to count ten beeps.
With some practice, this is easy.

You can try this with a sighted person watching you the first few times to
verify that the temperature setting is correct.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
Alice
