Bruce, so what do you do then to start this self-cleaning process? Just merely press the self-clean feature? It will run for three hours, then, you say? Wonder if we could see to set it what the other time choices would be? I figured you'd have to have windows open or screen door screens up, or some thing; I also hear if you use this feature too often that it ruins your oven and eats your insulation, thus making your oven not accurate anymore, and mine works so nicely, I would hate doing that.

I have a self cleaning oven, and it is wonderful. You do not have to lock it it does itself, and cleans for about 3 hours. As far as I know, we cannot see to change the cleaning time. The other thing is to open all the windows because it cleans by burning the stuff off. I love it. Lastly some of the ovens do not allow the up and down temps to beep, no problem, just hold temp down for 10 seconds, and most only go down to 170 degrees, then every tap is 5 degrees. Hope this helps. I also have the clear bump dots things on bake, broil, temperature up and temperature down and off and self-cleaning oven. Mine has 350 degrees F. as its default, but you just lightly touch the up or down temperatures and it changes only! In five degree intervals! Never in one degree incriments. I think it does wonders for making cakes and cookies. This might sound stupid, but my fear is using the self-clean feature! I clean it the regular old-fashioned way and you can get Easy Off spray oven cleaner, but you have to look for the one marked for self-cleaning ovens. My self-clean feature does not have a lock on the oven. I have never chose to use it out of sheer fear; if any one has any tips, kindly send along to convince me. Thanks, and hope this helped. My wife is sighted. She put special touch dots on the oven for bake, start, and a dot to identify where to cancel and turn off the oven is. When the oven is heated to the proper temperature it beeps one long beep to let you know it is ready. The automatic temperature is 350 degrees, the standard baking temperature for many recepes. The oven beeps when a sighted person touches the temperature. My problem is this. My wife called the local agency for the blind and asked one of the case workers how a sightless person such as myself can operate a digital oven. This case worker told my wife that digital ovens are too difficult to operate. She told her that you could touch the temperature control pannel too hard, and you might set the temperatures 5 degrees instead of one degree. I see where she is coming from to a point, but if you bake everything at 350 degrees, you are hampered because you have to double or triple the time of cooking. Any help that can be given would be greatly appreciated.
