So that is why my newest little crockpot is so hot.
I know many people what is called a slow cooker and it is a non-stick pot on a burner. Where as the crockpot is a crock that heats all around when cooking. The slow cooker cooks about 3 or 4 times faster. I don't know if this is a Canadian thing or not but here I know the slow cooker and the crockpot are 2 separate appliances that work and look differently.

Yes, Sherri, they are the same thing. As someone said, Crockpot,
which is written as one word with an uppercase C, is a registered
brand name. Marilyn, sadly, they are making slow-cookers so they do
cook hotter, and, consequently faster, than before. I heard a cooking
show hostess discussing this a few times on her show. She said there
were concerns food was not reaching proper temperatures to kill
bacteria, and there were cases of illness from this. She
believes--and I agree--that people simply were undercooking the food.
Anyway, regulations now have forced the makers of slow-cookers to make
them hotter. I can no longer put something in the Crockpot before I
leave for work in the morning, because it will be overcooked by the
time I get home, and due to the hotter temperatures, the liquids will
be nearly gone. Those of you fortunate enough to have the older
Crockpots, hang onto them!
