Another idea is an ice cream scoop, the kind with the trigger thing on it. You can get 1/4 cup size and just put the scoop into the bowl, then put the scoop over the pan and push the lever and the batter goes right into the cup.

You get uniform cup cakes and it is neater because you can get the cup right over the individual spot in the tin to fill it. Hope this helps.
