Yes, it is cheaper to make it yourself.  You can make several batches
and keep the cinnamon/sugar mix in a jar, and keep it on a shelf in
your cupboard.  You can use it for cinnamon toast in the future,
<smile>, or sprinkle it over cake batter just before you place the
cake in the oven, or sprinkle it over apple bread or other quick
breads before baking.

My mom used to make cinnamon toast similar to what others have
mentioned here.  She'd butter one side of the bread, sprinkle on the
sugar/cinnamon mix, then either put it under the broiler for a minute,
or bake it for about six or seven minutes at 400 degrees.  You might
start checking the toast after about four minutes to see if it's the
texture you want.  Make sure it doesn't burn, unless you like burned
toast.  :-)
