Not only would I suggest getting one that uses a basket or two, but I suggest one with a locking lid, that allows you to raise and lower the basket or baskets through the use of a handle from the outside of the fryer while the lid is closed and locked. And, preferably, one that stays relatively cool to the touch on the outside. While a timer is nice, it isn't necessary, nor is a temperature control as long as the temperature can reach about 375 degrees, as that is what seems to be the most common frying temperature. Make sure the fryer is big enough to meet your needs. The nice thing about having two baskets is that, for instance, you can put fries in one and chicken in the other, and fry them at the same time, for different lengths of time, of course. HTH.

Hi,
My best advice about deep frying is to be sure to buy one with a basket.

Good for you Nicolle. I have always been afraid of deep frying and don't want to gain weight which is such an easy thing to do. But, how would I, as a totally blind person use a deep fryer. I had an aunt who burned herself all over doing that and she could see.
