I have two sets of nested measuring cups that I use. They're quarter cup, third cup, half cup, and cup measures, and you fill to the brim for that measurement. If it's something I'm not too worried about like water I'll just fill until I hear it going into the sink. Anything I want to be more careful with I measure over my smallest perfect mixing bowl and return any spillage to the container. This works fine for just about anything I do.
