I have a Chargriller 5050 which has gas on one side and charcoal on the other.
I use the charcoal side for meat and fish. I use the gas side for potatoes and veggies. I use a talking cooking thermometer to check the temperature of the meat and I also can tell by the sizzling sound on how close it is to being done. I use to have an IGrill device until it died. I plan on getting another one. The IGrill works with the IPhone via Bluetooth to send notifications on the temperature of the food or grill depending on how you have it set up. If you have the moddle with 2 probes you can monitor both the food and the grill at the same time. This really comes in handy if you are smoking any meats. I have barbecued successfuly while using a gas grill, but i must admit it’s not my favorite way to cook. The burgers, steaks, hot dogs, and chicken thighs and the salmon and baby potatoes have all come out well, but it still makes me nervous and worried that especially things like chicken might be underdone. Still, you can do it, and using a timer and a talking thermometer helps a lot!
