I broil quite often. Be sure to have, and use, really good oven mitts, such as those sold by Blind Mice Megamall. Turn your stove fan on high. Be sure you know how to turn your smoke alarms off. It doesn't mean the house is burning down. For me, I just have to grab the garage door and wave it back and forth to get the smoke away from the smoke alarm. Don't broil thin things, only thick cuts of meat, like a rib-i steak.
