Dear colleagues,

The RIPE NCC responded to the European Commission’s open consultation on the 
review of the Directive on Security of Network Information Systems (NIS 
Directive), which closed on 2 October. 

Specifically, we encouraged the European Commission to develop better 
definitions, in cooperation with the technical community, for the terms 
described in Annex II of the NIS Directive, including such terms as “network 
and information systems”, “operator of essential services”, "digital service 
provider” and more. 

We contribute to these kinds of consultations, both at the EU level and across 
the RIPE NCC’s service region, in order to provide technical expertise to 
policymakers and to promote a multistakeholder model of Internet governance.
