just to follow up: Thanks to a hint from someone from the list I downloaded a pre-built coot from the ccp4 page (instead of one of the binaries in http://www.biop.ox.ac.uk/coot/software/binaries/releases/coot-0.6/) I dont know what's different but the ccp4 version worked perfectly fine. Thanks to G. from Harward ;-)
