Hi Aaron,
It has been awhile since I have purchased hardware for crystallographic
research. I am asking for recommendations for setting up hardware
stereo with Coot under Linux.
1. What flat screen monitors would you suggest to replace existing
CRT monitors now being used with nVidia cards using quad buffered
stereo, emitters and 3D glasses?
We are currently running DELL workstations under CentOS 5.6 with nVidia
Quadro FX 4600, nVidia 3DVision glasses and emitters (the infrared ones)
and DELL 23" Alienware monitors. I also tried ACER GD245HQbid monitors,
but I was not able to stop the automatic optimization or extrapolation
of the picture, which screwed up 3D Stereo completely. Maybe with more
time and patiance I could have found a solution, but it was just easier
to buy the Alienware screens. I also tested the VX2265wm for a short
time and they seemed to work well, too.
With the infrared version of the nVidia 3D Vision system we are currntly
getting into troubles when several stations are in the same room. I'd
now probably go for the Pro version of the 3D Vision system, which uses
RF and where the shutterglasses - apparently - can be paired with a
specific emitter.
2. Starting from scratch what monitor, graphics card, emitter and 3D
glasses would you suggest.
See above. This system works fine for us.
3. Have you had experience setting up multi-seat configurations, [...]
Unfortunately not.
Cheers
