It will be easier to integrate Java unit tests. Also, currently I don't think
we require Python, so I wouldn't want to add a system dependency just to test
one component. Perhaps, if you don't like Java, you could write tests in C or
as bash scripts, then somehow hook them into the test-contrib target?
